The Nutrition Label
Nutrition labels are a rectangular chart on most products meant for consumption. Nutrition labels are not found of most fresh produce, but they can be found the back of a bag of chips, a bottle of lemonade, and pain-reliever medicine, a bowl of dried pasta, etc. Nutrition labels provide us with important information on products we use.
Why do we have Nutrition Labels?
We have the reason we have nutrition labels is to inform consumers of what exactly they are eating. It is super important to know what you are putting your body. It's not replaceable and you only get one body. Eating healthy starts by getting informed. How much butter should you really be using? How much fat is in these potato chips? What nutrients are you getting from this cereal? These are all questions that food labels answer. Without food labels the product label might say beef tacos, but it really contains no beef!
How do you read a Nutrition Label?
Nutrition Labels shouldn't be ignored and a virtually the same on every product. Learning to read one is easy. First find the label (a black end white rectangle labeled Nutrition Facts) this will be found on the original packaging and if the product you bought has different parts the label might not be on all off them. Next, start at the top with the serving size and continue your way down. Please watch the very informative video at the bottom of the page for a detailed walk-through.
